‘Star Wars’ International Trailer May Have Revealed A Huge Spoiler

Despite the fact that Star Wars: The Last Jedi is less than two months away, the film had one trailer released a little over a week ago during Monday Night Football. While it seemed to offer multiple gigantic bombshells, a lot of that seemed to be classic Star Wars trailer misdirection.

When the trailer was released in Taiwan though, a fan on Reddit noted it revealed more than the filmmakers may have intended. The would-be revelation comes from the first line in the trailer, spoken by none other than Supreme Leader Snoke. In it, he says:

“When I found you, I saw raw untamed power. And beyond that, something special.”

Some English-speaking fans thought that the line was spoken to Rey as opposed to Kylo Ren. And it appears that the theory was true. The Taiwanese subtitles for the trailer showed that he was actually speaking to a female character.

The subtitles included a female-gendered pronoun and considering that Rey is also force sensitive, it makes sense. If true, when and where he found her is still unknown.

We do know that General Organa wasn’t found by Snoke. And Maz Kanata is far too old; chances are, she wasn’t found by Snoke either. So, the real question then becomes if Rey was indeed “found” by Snoke, what does it mean for the mystery of her lineage?

It’s pretty clear that she’s not Han and Leia’s daughter, as neither recognized her in The Force Awakens. The most compelling theory is that she is the daughter of Emperor Palpatine — considering her English accent and the way she wielded her lightsaber in her duel with Kylo Ren at the end of the film.

Also, considering that she showed some pull to the Dark Side in TFA, she very well could end up as the antagonist by the end of the third — or really, even second — film.

Another quote from the trailer is that Luke had only seen that type of power once before and that he wasn’t afraid of it the first time. He may refer either to Darth Vader or the Emperor. But was Vader as strong as the Emperor after he lost his battle to Obi-Wan Kenobi? And who was Luke describing in the first place?

Now, this is all to be taken with a grain of salt as there was another international-translation-based rumor a few months ago that was proven to be “wrong” by Rian Johnson, the director of The Last Jedi.

When an international poster “revealed” that “The Last Jedi” was referring to more than one person, the director said that it actually referred to a single person. However, that should also be taken with the same amount of salt since you can’t really trust what anyone associated with the film is saying.

They don’t want any secrets to be revealed until the film’s release in theaters in December. The only thing you can be sure of is that the plot points in the trailer aren’t going to be the same plot points in the film, at least not all of them.

So, with the trailer showing Rey being tortured by Snoke towards the end of the trailer it’s pretty safe to say that he will attempt to convert her to the Dark Side. Whether or not she goes along with him remains to be seen.
