The film Super Troopers was released all the way back in 2001 and became a cult hit. The fellas from Broken Lizard — the comedy group/production company behind the project— were pegged as Hollywood’s next big thing. But their cinematic success was short lived. Lacking funds they used crowdfunding to get Super Troopers (4)2(0) created.
Regardless of how we got here, the movie is coming and it looks great. The videos they created in their crowdfunding campaign were hilarious and perfect (tone-wise, as compared to the first film) and the trailer continues that trend. So, without further adieu, here it is! Keep in mind it’s a teaser — and NSFW!
It’s great to see the fellas back together, especially in their most famous roles. Their movies after Super Troopers — Club Dread and The Slammin’ Salmon — weren’t as well received. Had they gone straight to the studio for a sequel to Super Troopers back in 2001-2005, they’d have been given a $50 million or more budget though.
Despite their recent flops, they are very in tuned with what their audience likes — hence the release date of this film, 4/20/2018. If this movie brings in the bacon even half as well as the first film, the Broken Lizard production company should have enough money to make whichever film they like next.
Perhaps that’s why they went the independent financing route. So, if you’re a fan of the first film, do yourself and the Broken Lizard guys a favor and pay to watch this movie!
