2018’s Avengers: Infinity War’s New Comedy Duo Announced!

With Comic Con over there is still news that people are picking up on from all of the quotes and exposure that comes with the X-Mas of comic book movies. Avengers: Infinity War director (at least one of them) Joe Russo was talking about the new dynamic(s) that exist in what should be his magnum opus, especially when it comes to characters he hasn’t been able to use before. Now, there were some rumors earlier in the week that Infinity War would introduce a new “Buddy-Cop”-esque duo and we now know who that duo is going to be. Thor Odinson and Peter “Star-Lord” Quill.

“You know what’s interesting is that because of the re-toning that Taika (Waititi) did with Thor 3 and the direction Thor is heading in as a character, he and Star-Lord were a very surprising combination and a very funny combination. So I’m excited for the audience to see the two of them together.”

By “re-toning” Russo means that essentially Thor Ragnarok Director ,Taika Waititi, has essentially done a sort of character reboot when it comes to the God of Thunder. In a recent interview, Mark Ruffalo (who plays the Hulk in Ragnarok) said that he was amazed by how much ad-libbing was allowed during the filming of Ragnarok. Considering the intricate plans that Marvel has and the fact that fans dissect every single word in every single movie, you’d think that any ad-libbing would be frowned upon by the MCU’s personified Thanos, Kevin Feige. It’s a great sign for directors that the MCU is allowing some flexibility and that even characters like Thor, who we’ve seen in four separate movies, can turn the page and become a bit more personable. The “Thor and Darryl” short (that was written and shot by Waititi) showed a new side of Thor that people hadn’t seen before. Considering that Peter Quill is essentially the Deadpool of the MCU, it’ll be great to see the two interact in a movie that suddenly has more hype behind it that Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 and Spider-Man: Homecoming combined!
