10 Unexpected Celebrity Couples of 2018
What else do people do apart from go to work, get home and care for their family and loved ones? Celebrities are a part of the regular Joe and Jane’s life. People have alerts on their devices, beeping and vibrating every time an update is available. They all have social media accounts because their idols have them, too. It’s fun to follow celebrities, their craft, and most especially their love lives. While there are lists that show the top ten break-ups of 2018, this is a more positive list that will showcase the sweetest, the longest-lasting, and the most shocking celebrity couples of 2018.
10. Sam Taylor-Johnson and Aaron Taylor-Johnson
Samantha Taylor-Johnson was born Samantha Louise Taylor-Wood on March 4, 1967 in Croydon, London, England. She started her would-be directorial craft with fine art photography, but then transitioned to directing in 2006. Her most famous directorial work was of course the Fifty Shades of Grey film adaptation of the first book. But her most notable work was her debut film, Nowhere Boy, where she directed her husband Aaron Taylor-Johnson.
Aaron Taylor-Johnson is quite popular as Kick-Ass, and more recently as Quicksilver in Avengers: Age of
Ultron. He started acting as early as ten years old. Watching Jackie Chan and Owen Wilson’s Shanghai Knights and you’ll realize he was the Charlie Chaplin kid in there. His best acting job was in Tom Ford’s critically-acclaimed Nocturnal Animals. It was a chilling transformation from the staple roles he’s been doing and it won him a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor.
They are an unexpected couple because what happened seemed so fast to them. They started filming Nowhere Boy and started dating soon after. An engagement was announced the same year. It has all the ingredients of a romance going south soon, but nobody expected it to be strong until today. Here they are nine years and two daughters later, Aaron is apparently kick-ass in taking care of his woman as well!
9. Katie Holmes and Jamie Foxx
Katie Holmes was a Toledo, Ohio, native and is the youngest of five children. The beginning of her professional acting career started in 1996 when she joined the International Modeling and Talent Association Competition where she performed a To Kill A Mockingbird monologue. Next thing she knew, she was cast alongside powerhouse actors Sigourney Weaver and Kevin Kline, for a film helmed by the great Ang Lee. After Ice Storm came the TV show that made her a darling across the country. Everybody knew her as Joey, the tomboyish best friend in Dawson’s Creek. She went on to star in numerous films including Batman Begins and her most recent film was Logan Lucky. But she will forevermore be remembered as the woman who drove Tom Cruise crazy in love.
Jamie Foxx started as a comedian and had sitcoms from 1991 (In Living Color) to 2001 (The Jamie Foxx Show). His first serious role was in an Oliver Stone classic, Any Given Sunday, where he traded acting chops with Al Pacino. But the role he was born for, and won him an Oscar, was Ray. He was Ray Charles in the flesh.
This couple is unexpected because nobody saw this relationship coming. There was more chance of Jamie Foxx and Tom Cruise getting together since they spent time together in the film Collateral. It’s doubly unexpected because they are still together. When it comes to his relationships, Jamie has been very private, even now with Katie. Let’s just hope he doesn’t jump up and down on some furniture on a talk show any time soon.
8. Emma Watson and Chord Overstreet
Paparazzi got a glimpse of the young couple holding hands and lovingly walking down a street just last March. Reports said they have been dating awhile now.
Chord Overstreet is the son of country music artist Paul Overstreet. He has had an amazing career at a very young age. He was part of the trailblazing TV series Glee. The show displayed his talents and skills as an actor and musician. He then decided to focus more on his music career.
Emma Watson is having a nice career filmwise. Of course, it started with the Harry Potter saga where she played one of Harry’s best friends, the smart and brave mudblood, Hermione Granger. Eight films, eight blockbusters, that’s just gravy! She went on to make good movies after this, like A Week with Marilyn, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, and The Circle opposite Tom Hanks. Her most recent spectacle was playing Belle in Disney’s live-action version of the classic animated feature Beauty and the Beast.
This is an unexpected union since Emma and Chord don’t seem to have anything in common. Well, just like what Julia Fordham said, loves moves in mysterious ways.
7. Sacha Baron Cohen and Isla Fisher
Sacha Baron Cohen is a British actor and one of the most brilliant and colorful actors alive today. His comedy touches on everything, farce, slapstick, social taboo, sex and it’s just borderline inappropriate at times. His most famous character is Borat Sagdiyev, a Kazakhstan native with a handheld camera who visits America for the first-time. Sacha also created famous and hilarious characters Ali G. Bruno, and Admiral General Aladeen. He has landed good roles in movies like the Madagascar series, Talladega Nights, and Grimsby. More serious roles were in Les Miserables, Sweeney Todd, and Martin Scorsese’s Hugo.
Isla Fisher is an Australian actress born in Oman from Scottish parents. She started acting when she was 9-years old, appearing in commercials and then TV shows. She made a name for herself as a comedic actor in the comedy film Wedding Crashers. She held her own with co-star comedians Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn. Since then, she’s been in an array of films every year, but the role she seemed born for was Rebecca Bloomwood in the movie Confessions of a Shopaholic, a film adaptation of the books written by Sophie Kinsella.
Sacha met Isla in Australia back in 2002. They are now married with three children. They are unexpectedly still a couple because Sacha was so crazy before, it didn’t seem he would settle with a woman back then. They are still together and are one of the cutest celebrity couples in the business.
6. Millie Bobby Brown and Jacob Sartorius
Jacob Sartorius is a musician who got his fame through social media. He started posting videos on the Internet and managed to grab a record deal afterwards. Kids, right?! His hit songs include Sweatshirt and Hit or Miss. He also was nominated for a Teen’s Choice award, Shorty Awards, and Kid’s Choice awards in 2016 and 2017. Jacob is only fifteen-years old.
Millie Bobby Brown is a British actress born in 2004. She is only fourteen-years old. She played small roles in shows like NCIS, Modern Family, and Grey’s Anatomy. But everyone knows her as Eleven or El in the Netflix series Stranger Things. This was a breakthrough performance by a budding actress in a breakthrough TV show from a trendsetting company! She was all the rave at the release of Stranger Things on Netflix. Critics and fans loved her. Her performance won her a Kid’s Choice award, MTV award, and an impressive SAG award. And she’s only fourteen. Kids, right?!
Fans say that Millie and Jacob’s relationship is Instagram official. Call me old-fashioned but this is an unexpected celebrity couple because they are so young. But hey, if they are both happy and their loved ones support them, there’s nothing wrong with that. Wow, celebrities nowadays!
5. Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard
Dax Shepard is a comedian, a writer, and a director. He started in improv and throughout the years was in comedy films and even wrote and directed some of them. His most recent film was CHIPS, which he wrote, directed and starred in. He struggled most of his adult life from substance abuse but has been clean since 2004, three years prior to meeting Kristen Bell.
Kristen Bell started in stage acting in 2001 in the Broadway musical The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. But it was Veronica Mars that put her on the map. It’s was a TV series that aired for three seasons. It was a role that earned her a Saturn Award for Best Actress on TV. Her notable movies are Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Couples Retreat, Bad Moms, and of course as Princess Anna in Disney’s Frozen.
This is an unexpected celebrity couple largely because of Kristen Bell. A beautiful actress settling down with a semi-attractive actor. Not to say anything bad about Dax, but he is no Chris Pine. Kristen is a babe, that’s why they can’t forget Sarah Marshall! But they are still together, with their two children, and are stronger than ever!
4. Tom Holland and Zendaya
Zendaya Maree Stoermer Coleman is a Disney actor. You know how talented these people are, Zac Efron, Miley Cyrus, Jonas Brothers, and Bella Thorne. She began as a fashion and commercial model, with some gigs and exposure here and there. She starred in Disney’s Shake It Up series for three years. She just had a knockout year in 2017, landing roles in the Oscar-winning film The Greatest Showman, as Anne Wheeler, and Marvel Studios Spider-Man: Homecoming, as MJ (Michelle Jones).
Thomas Stanley Holland was born in Kingston, England, and has three brothers. He was initially a dancer, starting his career in the theater by performing in West End’s Billy Elliot the Musical. He got his first big break on the big screen in the film The Impossible, and worked with actors Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor. He then starred in films such as In the Heart of the Sea, The Lost City Of Z, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and the lead role in Spider-Man: Homecoming opposite real-life sweetheart Zendaya.
Tom and Zendaya look like they are having fun together in their press junkets and pictures. Oh, to be young and in love. They are an unexpected couple because they just did what everybody in Hollywood expects. So, by it being something that is expected, it became paradoxically unexpected. Don’t sweat it. Peter Parker and MJ know what this means.
3. Paula Patton and Zachary Quittman
Zachary Quittman is not a celebrity, which makes this love story special. Zachary is a real estate agent, so how did he cross paths with Paula Patton? He showed her a house one time? Nope. They met at a basketball game. Lakers versus Cavaliers? Nope. It was their sons’ basketball game. Romantic isn’t it? What a cute meet! He is currently separated with his wife of twenty years and has two children.
Paula Patton was born in Los Angeles and she is an actress. She really just went for the bigs by starring in films with minimal TV show exposure. You might remember her as the hot girl in the bar in Hitch that Will Smith tries to lure in by pretending to order drinks from her. Then, the next year, in 2006, she landed the lead role in Déjà Vu, opposite Hollywood juggernaut Denzel Washington. She then worked on films like Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol and the film version of Warcraft. She now has a TV series titled Somewhere Between.
They are a really unexpected couple because love truly comes when you least expect it and no matter where you are, literally and figuratively speaking. I root for love and for Paula Patton’s happiness, she deserves it.
2. Rooney Mara and Joaquin Phoenix
Rooney Mara is an actress, but she doesn’t need to be. She doesn’t even need to work her whole life. Her first and last names are clues to why. The Maras (her mom’s family) founded the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Rooneys (her dad’s family) founded the New York Giants. She is also Kate Mara’s sister. Her acting career got a jumpstart with her role in A Nightmare on Elm Street, then went to full speed with The Social Network. But her best, and most famous movie was The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. That was a bad-ass character!
Joaquin Phoenix is a perennial actor, with at least 32 movies made. His best performance was a portrayal of Johnny Cash, which won him a Best Actor award in the Golden Globes and an Oscar nomination as well. He went on and made award-worthy performances in movies like Gladiator (Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor), The Master (Oscar nomination for Best Actor), Two Lovers, Her, and Inherent Vice. His last project was a movie he co-starred in with Rooney Mara, Mary Magdalene.
This is unexpected, unfathomable, kind of insane, and just not easy on the eyes. Well, Joaquin is still the man and Rooney rocks!
1. Laura Dern and Baron Davis
Baron Davis is a former NBA superstar and one of the best point guards to ever play the game. He was a two-time NBA All-Star, a two-time NBA steals leader, and an NBA Skills Challenge champion. He’s played for the Los Angeles Clippers, New York Knicks, Charlotte & New Orleans Hornets, Golden State Warriors and the Cleveland Cavaliers You might see him on NBA pre and post-game shows offering game insights and expert commentary.
Laura Dern is another perennial actress, just like Joaquin Phoenix. Her latest achievement was the HBO series Big Little Lies with co-stars that will not shy away from her achievements, Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon. She’s already won two Best Actress awards in the Golden Globes for the movies Rambling Rose and Citizen Ruth. She also won four Golden Globes for TV, two each for Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress. That last one was for Big Little Lies.
This is the most unexpected couple in this list. Laura Dern and Baron Davis? Seriously?! There was a photo of them kissing passionately! This just can’t be true. But, Baron recently is no longer with his wife, and Laura Dern is currently single, what’s left to ponder?
