10 Fast Food Restaurant Loaded Fries That Took It To The Next Level
When we bite into a french fry we expect it to have the basic elements. However, sometimes our local fast food restaurant takes the humble fry and gives us something special. Here are a few fast-food joints that kicked their fries up a notch with 10 Fast Foods That Took Fries To The Next Level.
10. In-N-Out Animal Fries
In-N-Out is into everything these days; sliders, weddings and now, next level fries. These fries are part of the secret menu, or, not so secret menu to those in the know. The popular Animal Fries comes topped with a mass of melty cheese, grilled onions, and a heart-stopping ladle of Thousand Island dressing. As In-N-Out fast food joints aren’t in every state, if you find yourself near one then the Animal fries are a must. The way to eat them, according to Animal fries regulars, is to stop admiring, which is hard as they look so good! Grab a fork, and stir ‘em up. Wait too long and you’ll end up with garden-variety fries under re-thickened cheese, but start mixing early and every crispy fry will get its share of the Animal Style wealth. This all sounds super delicious and we are all for chowing down, but we just know that we will quickly fall into a sleep coma soon after.
9. Steak ‘n Shake Ups Their Fry Game
So, as you may know, these fries are not heavily loaded. However, who said that you had to have a lot on your fries for them to be considered loaded. When Steak ‘n Shake wanted to get in on the loaded fry game they knew they had to embody what their customers could stomach. If you have never been to Steak ‘n Shake then you may not know that they fancy themselves somewhat of a diner-style fast food restaurant. Their classic menu consists of homestyle food, which is where you will find their regular fries. However, since they wanted to spice things up, they added the parm cheese and herb fries. They were essentially a hit and have been on the menu ever since. If you don’t like parmesan don’t worry, they have a few other options like Cajun fries, chili cheese fries, bacon cheese fries, and even thin ‘n crispy fries. As we said, they aren’t the loaded fries that we are used to seeing but you could have an order of these fries alone and be completely satisfied. The company does not shy away from loaded fries but they seem to have a grasp on what their customers like.
8. Del Taco Carne Asada Fries
Add the name Carne Asada to anything and it will send people into a tizzy. For most people, Del Taco is a treat unless you live in sunny California, as the popular taco shack isn’t around the world, or even outside of the United States. The Carne Asada Fries are in many ways the very essence of what Del Taco is about; tasty American fast food with a Mexican twist. With crinkle-cut fries, the carne asada, guacamole, shredded cheese, pico de gallo and sour cream, you essentially have a naked burrito. Which is no bad thing. The crinkle-cut fries fill the role which would usually be filled by bland rice. Grease and salt give the fries a more distinct flavor than rice normally does, as well as that crispy crunch, which is good. Another great thing about the fries being wavy cut is that the ridges will catch all that carne asada goodness. This makes them easy to shovel into your mouth. If by any chance these fries are too much for you, Del Taco has a few other options including Queso Loaded Fries, Chili Cheese Fries, and the Deluxe Chili Cheese Fries.
7. Carl’s Jr. Pizza Fries
Haven’t you ever just wanted an order of french fries but also wanted a nice, greasy slice of pepperoni pizza? Carl’s Jr. has got you. The fast-food joint that became popular for having commercials of hot, semi-famous women eating their big, messy burgers was trying to step their fry game up when they presented us with the Pizza Fries. Here is the low-down on these fries: they were presented as being in the “testing phase” for the company. This was smart seeing as Carl’s Jr. was not known for their fries. The Pizza Fries are topped with mozzarella cheese, parmesan, marinara sauce, and pepperoni slices. Which all sound mouth-wateringly delicious. Carl’s Jr. execs admitted that their new fries were meant to appeal to their male demographic. Or, as they refer to them, “Young, Hungry Guys”. The company wanted its next venture to be epic. They were ultimately only tested in California and there has been no word on what happened to them afterward. Whatever happens, we hope that these Pizza fries make a big appearance soon.
6. Sonic’s Chili Cheese Tots
When has Sonic ever steered you wrong? Their menu is so big and they are always adding to it, coming up with new inventions. Their commercials mostly focus on their shakes and slushies and little side goodies that you can pick up in a rush, but their food is just as good and wild. Just like these Chili Cheese Tots. On a regular day, tater tots always hit the spot but add cheese and chili to them and wow. Some may say that tater tots are not fries but let’s be honest, they are made of potatoes and usually fried and just because they aren’t the same shape as a french fry, doesn’t mean we count them out. In addition to chili and cheese, you can ask for onions as well for an added boost of flavor and crunch. The Chili Cheese Tots were such a hit that Sonic kept it on the menu, which a lot of fast food places don’t do, and you can still pick up an order today. On a regular day, Sonic offers quick bites like a pretzel with cheese dip and onion rings. However, if you enjoy chili, just not on tater tots, then you can get an order of Sonic’s Chili Cheese Fries. If that’s too much for you, then try one of their hand-spun shakes.
5. Arby’s Loaded Curly Fries
Back in 2015, Arby’s took it upon themselves to introduce us to their loaded curly fries. The base of the meal is their popular crispy, seasoned curly fries. They loaded them up with cheese sauce, bacon, and shredded cheese. To make the fries the best they could possibly be, they added parmesan ranch. On a regular basis, we add ranch to a bunch of our food; wings, sandwiches, and yes, fries. So, this is a great move on the company’s part. What is a more pressing issue for us is how the fries held up covered in all of that golden cheesy goodness and the grease from the bacon. Well, the verdict is good and Arby’s Loaded Curly Fries are a real winner and a must-have when visiting this fast food joint. Arby’s has always provided their loyal customers with some pretty tasty surprises over the years. Our personal favorite is when they smother anything in their golden cheesy sauce. These fries have that essential element so even if they didn’t have all that other good stuff on it, they would be just as delicious.
4. Wienerschnitzel’s Buffalo Bacon Chili Cheese Fries
Wienerschnitzel is the world’s largest hot dog chain with 358 locations across America. Unfortunately, for those who live outside of the United States, you may never have the luxury of chowing down on a Wienerschnitzel’s hot dog. Aside from their famous hot dogs, what we are here to brag about today is their creation of the perfect compliment to their dogs; the Buffalo Bacon Chili Cheese Fries. Red Hot Bacon Fries, Triple Cheese Double Bacon Fries, Ultimate Chili Cheese Fries, Buffalo Bacon Chili Cheese Fries, and Bacon Ranch Fries. Plus, you can choose if you want regular Chili Cheese or Ultimate Chili Cheese. Fans already rave about the company’s regular ol’ chili cheese fries so we can only imagine these taste phenomenal. Wienerschnitzel is no stranger to new food pairings. But even if they didn’t constantly upgrade their food, they have some great staples to try. The Angus Beef Dog and the Mini Corn Dogs are fun choices. We suggest you even grab a Junkyard Dog. That’s a hotdog covered in french fries, Chili sauce, a slice of American cheese, French’s mustard and grilled onions. You even get to choose what hotdog you want Polish, Angus, or Beef. if you’re feeling sophisticated you can get it on a pretzel bun.
3. Carl’s Jr. Buffalo Blue Cheese CrissCut Fries
Now we come to a french fry that has its own name – the CrissCut. In 2013, Carl’s Jr. was riding high off of their popular commercials. So, why not throw a twist on their fries to capitalize on their already immense success. The CrissCut fries are drenched in blue cheese crumbles, ranch dressing, and Frank’s RedHot Buffalo Sauce. Most people have praised the amount of blue cheese that is on the waffle, or CrissCut, fries. They also said that the fries were perfectly crispy and well seasoned. Which is exactly how all fries should be. If you like your fries in a fun and different shape and you are a lover of blue cheese, then Carl’s Jr. Blue Cheese CrissCut Fries are a must-have fast food item. While Carl’s Jr. may not be the most famous fast food restaurant out there, with great tasting and innovative food like these fries, it should be.
2. Del Taco Carnitas Fries
We are all in luck as Del Taco has brought back these popular fries for a limited time only, as well as much more. The Del Taco Carnitas Loaded Fries utilizes Del Taco’s popular crinkle fries and tops them with a whole lot of ingredients. The Del Taco website describes them as being topped with tender braised, shredded pork Carnitas, freshly hand-grated cheddar cheese, savory secret sauce, diced onions, and fresh chopped cilantro. The company also brought back the Carnitas Combo Burrito; with slow-cooked beans made from scratch, freshly hand-grated cheddar cheese, and tangy green sauce in a warm flour tortilla. The Epic Carnitas Burrito has tender braised, shredded pork Carnitas, freshly hand-grated cheddar cheese, chipotle sauce, cilantro-lime rice, seasoned black beans, and handmade pico de gallo salsa, wrapped in a warm, oversized flour tortilla. Like we said earlier, Del Taco is confined to the Southern California region. But if you ever make it out there hopefully you can try something just as special. The fast-food joint is always trying their best to surprise their customers with something special. If you aren’t a big Del Taco fan and your friends or family has forced you to eat there, well, be grateful. They are introducing you to as authentic as possible Mexican food. If you don’t care for that thoughtfulness, the menu has burgers.

Wendys has really stepped their game up in the last few years. They have rebranded and made their meals more appealing to the masses. Every once in awhile Wendy’s comes out with a loaded fry that is actually pretty tasty. This time it is the Wendy’s Pulled Pork Cheese Fries. Pork and cheese atop the sea salt, crispy Wendy’s fries what more could you ask for? The fries have warm cheddar cheese, which you can also get on the side to dip their regular fries in.
