10 Co-Stars Who Are Best Friends In Real Life

On a movie night, we sit glued to our screens watching friend and foe trying to outwit each other and we are left in awe at some of the friendships and enmities in these films. From Friends to The Blacklist to Charlies Angels, we admire the friendships and wish we could at least have that kind of priceless relationship where one is willing to go to bat for a friend and even die for them. Nothing is more moving than seeing a friend on-screen act as a surrogate for a childless mother, or a friend donating part of his liver for the sake of another. Battles are fought and won all in the name of friendship and Hollywood keeps giving and giving.

On the streets, in nightclubs and movie theatres, we meet friends who look like friendships are forged in steel. In most cases, the first time best friends meet is either momentous or nothing to write home about. A friend is a rock who holds you when you are down. Friends lean on each other and in most cases become godparents for each other’s children. Friends are our source of happiness and with a friend, the world is manageable.

So, are these Hollywood onscreen friendships just acting or are they genuine friendships forged in steel? Here we explore 10 co-stars who are best friends in real life.

10. George Clooney & Brad Pitt

This is a picture-perfect Bromance. These two absolutely good-looking leading men, George Clooney and Brad Pitt are a joy to behold. The two have been filmed as friends in various films notably the Oceans 11, Oceans 12 and Oceans 13. The camaraderie portrayed in these films leaves one with no doubt that the two are really good together on screen.

However, this friendship does not end on screen. The two friends have been known to play pranks on each other as part of an expansion of their friendship. Even though during his marriage, Brad Pitt had supposedly been forbidden from seeing George Clooney by his wife Angelina Jolie, it seems this distance did not deter their friendship nor derail it. It is said good friends can go to the ends of the world just to see each other. According to mirror.co.uk, newly divorced Brad Pitt flew a helicopter to George Clooney’s Oxfordshire country home to meet his buddy’s twins, Ella and Alexander. It takes a rare friendship to do that and it seems these two friends are quite tight.

9. Matt Damon & Ben Affleck

We suppose next door neighbors do become tight friends and this is what happened with Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. According to bustle.com, the two buddies met in Boston where they lived a few houses apart. These two buddies wrote and acted in the film Goodwill Hunting, which went on to win an Oscar. This is a great way to custom make a role for yourself. The brilliant pair also acted in the movie Dogma in 1999, which was a film by Kevin Smith. Their onscreen chemistry is amazing and one can get just a hint of their tight friendship that is spelled out even more strongly in between shoots.

The two buddies have not co-starred in any movies together since 1999, but their friendship seems to be unwavering and they have each other’s back in every situation. Matt defended Ben in the wake of his divorce from Jennifer Garner, where he equated the image the public had of his friend to ‘being in a cast role’; insisting nobody truly knew or understood his friend. There seems to be some who understand them and the two even went ahead to win ‘a guys of the decade award’. we believe this award is aptly suited for them as they are indeed one for the decade. This friendship deserves a five star.

8. Cameron Diaz & Drew Barrymore

These Charlie’s Angels dropped from heaven and onto our screens, filling us with envy at the tight bond the angels had. The two angels Cameron and Drew met in their teens when these two overachievers were not known. Drew was working in a coffee shop and Cameron was a model. They were 14 and 16 respectively, but they never become tight friends until the filming of Charlie’s Angels where these angel’s wings locked to form a heart. The pair has become so close that they were both each other’s bridesmaids.

This friendship forged onset is so unique that Cameron Diaz once went to bat with a reporter who bashed Drew for her past drug use. So angry was she that she ended the interview to indicate her displeasure. People.com sighted an issue of Good Housekeeping where Drew was quoted saying that in case you want the best cooking partner or a couch potato to watch TV with, or if you need medical attention, then Cameron is the person to call. She continued to gush that Cameron is the the most loyal, cozy, fun and fierce friend that anyone could ask for. She emphasised their honesty towards each other, saying they work hard on their friendship and their lives. This sounds like a really good friend to have and not many people can say this about their friends. We are impressed that this friendship has stood the test of time and is growing stronger.

7. Leopard Dicaprio & Tobey Maguire

Theirs is a friendship that has spanned three decades. This pair has so much in common that their friendship was inevitable. While they have acted together in an adaptation of The Great Gatsby in 2013, this was not their first meeting, as the pair met at an audition as kids. They were both raised by single parents who had accompanied them to the auditions. The dedicated mothers had a dream that their kid would one day become Hollywood A-listers. The two friends formed an instant bond and have been friends ever since.

Even though this film was a flop in terms of ratings, the friendship between this pair was palpable and indicated that in a movie with a better storyline, the two could act a storm. Even though the two are now huge stars, Tobey says theirs is a normal guys relationship where they like to talk and argue about basketball. Their friendship truly is timeless and it was cemented further when they lived next to each other as they shot The Great Gatsby. These rare friendships are the stuff of envy.

6. Jennifer Aniston & Courtney Cox

This pair have been our go-to ladies when we need a guide on what girlfriends should be like. We watched them through the ten seasons of the NBC hit sitcom Friends and their friendship was truly inspiring. The pair acted as roommates with all the ups and downs of people living in close proximity. They were there for each other and we were left in awe of their dedication towards one another. Their onscreen chemistry was superb and the same was transferred to their normal life when they forged a friendship that has stood the test of time.

The pair has each other’s back and they act as a buffer everytime one of them has a problem. They console each other during breakups and Jennifer, who was once married to Brad Pitt, has owned up to spending nights at Courtney’s in her guest room when she was going through a particularly hard time. Courtney offered Jennifer a shoulder during her break up with Brad. She has also come in again to hold her hand after her unexpected break up with Justin Theroux. The pair is so close that they celebrate birthdays together and Jennifer is also the godmother of Coco, Courtney’s daughter.

5. Michelle Williams & Busy Philipps

These two met as teenagers on the popular teen series Dawson’s Creek. Theirs has been dubbed Hollywood’s most romantic love story. They have the kind of girl bond that is unbreakable and they are sometimes seen dying each others hair or re-piercing each other’s ears. Even though this is pretty girly things that do not really point at the strength of their friendship, they are the building blocks of this amazing friendship.

Michelle married Heath Ledger, whom she met on the Brokeback Mountain set. Their daughter Matilda, who was born in 2005 is Busy Phillips’, goddaughter. In the wake of Heath Ledger’s untimely death, it was a pregnant Busy Philipps who stayed with Michelle and offered her a shoulder to cry on. Even on Heath’s death anniversary, she flew halfway across the country to be with her friend and console her. The pair has, over the years acted as each other’s dates to the Oscars, the SAG awards, and the Tonys. While accepting an award at the Hollywood Film Awards in 2012, Michelle thanked Busy, saying that she was her forever date and steady girl. Now isn’t that sweet? To get this kind of friendship is rare and these two truly have a rare thing going.

4. Reese Witherspoon & Robert Pattinson

These two starred in the film Water for Elephants and even though they seem like a very odd couple, the two are good friends. Robert, who stole our hearts when he starred in the Twilight series of movies alongside on-screen and off-screen girlfriend Kristen Stewart. Reese, on the other hand, has acted in such adorable movies as Legally Blonde. Even though they have not been in too many movies together, their alliance is what made Reese hold Roberts hand in the wake of Kristen’s infidelity in 2012. That was highly publicized. While this heartthrob was visibly heartbroken, it is his friend Reese who pulled him out of the slump and helped him get over the breakup, which was arguably harder on his fans than on him.

One may argue that one incident does not make one a friend, but the fact that these onscreen friends had each others back off screen to help the other cope with such public humiliation is something to be admired. It seems that these two friends are destined for a deeper friendship as they appear to still be friends and meet regularly. The kind of friendship that goes through fire can last a lifetime.

3. Anne Hathaway & Hugh Jackman

Anne, who has starred in several movies, notably The Princess Diaries, The Devil Wears Prada and The Intern, is quite a well-known actress. Hugh Jackman has also starred in movies like Logan, Wolverine, The Greatest Showman, and X-Men. With such movies under their belts, this pair has quite a lot in common and their success as co-stars was inevitable.

There is a myth that is propagated that men and women cannot be platonic friends, but these two buddies have broken this myth. Anne Hathaway and Hugh Jackman met when Ann was hosting the Oscars in 2011. They were to later co-star in the movie Les-Miserables and this two did not disappoint. The onscreen chemistry between the two was palpable and we believe their admiration of each other served to add spice to the movie. Hugh, who said he “instantly loved Anne” when they first met, was quite the gentleman and hilarious friend. Anne, on the other hand, has admitted to being a great admirer of Hugh since his days on Broadway.
This friendship, though unconventional, is one to be admired as the two absolutely attractive co-stars can be seen smiling and having a good time whenever they are together.

2. Vanessa Hudgens & Ashley Tisdale

What amount of time justifies a friendship being called strong? How long should a friendship have lasted for two people to consider their’s an unbreakable bond? Some friendships are forged in minutes, while others take a bit of time for the cement to bond together. Whatever the amount of time, a friend is the one who has your back and is not shy when taking selfies in ridiculous onesies, as seen during a Christmas shoot by these two buddies. This friendship is over a decade old and seems to be growing stronger. It was forged during their stint in the High School Musical movies.

The extremely attractive duo is quite active on social media, posting selfie after selfie with one another. They have been known to paint the town red during Halloween and have even been spotted at a Selena Gomez concert together. All in all, this pair truly knows how to have fun and what better way to do so than in the company of a truly cool girlfriend?

1. Sophie Turner & Maisie Williams

The best friend a girl can have is her sister. Sisters hold your hand and give advice without judgment. Even though they are not blood sisters, this relationship is almost like one with a sibling. Ever since their portrayal in HBO’s powerhouse Game of Thrones as sisters. If you are a fan of the Game of Thrones, then you must be familiar with the Stark sisters, Sansa and Arya. Even though the relationship they portray on screen is that of two sisters who rarely get along, akin to real-life siblings, the two are best buddies off the screen. Looking at them, it is obvious their bond is strong and it is making their acting better.

Looking at their social media accounts, the two have become fast buddies and on their accounts one can see that they have a tight friendship. Friendships can be brewed in the weirdest of situations, but by all accounts, it seems that the best relationships are those that are rooted in a working relationship. When two people work together they are bound to build a lot in common. This end up making their friendship strong and adds a lot more spice to their off-screen friendship.
