Celebrities and public figures are frequenting online dating platforms to meet people. For celebrities, finding true love and going on dates is quite challenging and tasking. The reasons are not far-fetched. They have busy schedules (location shoots, tours, promotions, concerts, media rounds) and also due to security reasons and for fear of a possible stalker, they hardly mingle. But with the growing popularity of online dating apps and the anonymity that comes with such platforms, a lot of celebrities are flocking to these dating sites to find their soul mates. Here we take a look at the top ten celebrities who have dared to use online dating apps and share their experiences and some of their stories are quite interesting.

10. Deborah Ann Woll

The Daredevil actress is a celebrity who had an active online dating profile and even found love online. She admitted in 2012 that she met her current boyfriend EJ Scott on match.com. The actress, who admitted that she had been unlucky with blind dates, had to resort to online dating to look for a prince charming. Woll, who is known for her fierce character in the HBO series True Blood also revealed that she broke up with her ex in order to focus on her role in the series. Scott is a standup comedian who was diagnosed with a rare eye disease called choroideremia, which has made him permanently blind. He lost his eyesight some months after their relationship began and it did not alter the affection Woll had started feeling for him.

Woll admitted that Scott was honest and open about the health condition that caused his blindness. Despite this health challenge she stuck with him and their relationship has blossomed ever since. The actress further admitted that Scott wrote about his disease on the app and she thought that he was crazy to be so open about it. Woll admitted that at first she cried and felt sad, but has since now gotten used to it.

9. Martha Stewart

Martha Stewart made her $700 million fortune across various business ventures including e-commerce, merchandising and publishing. She is also a best-selling author of several books. The business mogul took a shot at online dating in 2013 when she joined the dating site match.com. Stewart was married to Andrew Stewart for twenty-nine years before they ended their marriage in 1987.

Stewart, who is also widely known for television hosting and her publishing, eventually selected two out of over 1000 who responded to her advert. The two lucky men met up with her on Today before going on the dates with her. She had a dinner date with Stan and had drinks with Larry. After going on dates with Larry and Stan, she told Matt Lauer of Today that the experience ‘broke the ice’ and that she would think about “dating as a nice thing to do on a regular basis. Martha Stewart who revealed to Lauer that she already had follow-up discussions with one of her dates and also disclosed that she is ready to go on more dates after her first experience. The septuagenarian further revealed that since her pleasant experience in the world of online dating, her friends and associates had come forward to assist her and it has helped other women to try online dating.

8. Eric Stonestreet

Actor and comedian, Eric Stonestreet is best known for his role as Cameron Tucker in the ABC series Modern Family. Kansas-born Stonestreet won two Emmy Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. He has also made cameo appearances in other TV series such as The Mentalist, The West Wing, and others. He made his film debut in Almost Famous.

The actor joins the list of celebrities who have sought to find love on online dating platforms. Stonestreet, who shot into the limelight with his role in the sitcom, Modern Family, has publicly confessed his love and fascination with Tinder. He disclosed to Howard Stern in an interview that he had hooked up with a couple of girls he met on Tinder in 2014. While narrating his experience on the app to Stern, he noted that with online dating there is a chance for love but it’s all based on physical attraction. You can flip through the pictures and you pick the ones that appeal to you physically.

Stonestreet also lamented that it’s quite hard to get the right choice when using online dating apps, but it is worth a try. He compared his experience using Tinder with another dating app called Grindr. For Stonestreet, Grindr is more about sexual attraction. He confessed that he’s met a ‘decent’ amount of girls on Tinder that he has eventually gone ahead to make love to his date on the first day. For Stonestreet, hooking up via online dating sites is a regular thing and he has also confessed that he would always be ready to try it out.

7. Laverne Cox

Laverne Cox broke records when she was nominated for an Emmy award, as she is transgender. It was the first time that had happened. The actress broke into the limelight with her starring role in the Netflix series, Orange is the New Black, where she played Sophia Burset. Her performance earned her rave views and popularity and eventually led to her nomination for the Emmy. The Alabama born Cox studied creative writing at the Alabama School of Fine Arts. She also ventured into dancing. Laverne was raised by a single mother. She attempted suicide when she discovered that she had started developing feelings for her male classmates. Cox is also the first openly transgender person to appear on the cover of Time and Cosmopolitan magazines.

Laverne Cox found love on Tinder. While sitting on the Access couch with Natalie Morales and Kit Hoover in March, she disclosed that she met her boyfriend of over eight months on Tinder. Cox admitted she is in love with the man she met on Tinder and would do everything possible to keep the relationship going. They have already met both parents. Cox described the relationship as ‘amazing’ and he gets along with everybody.

6. Jenny McCarthy

Jennifer McCarthy was born to a Catholic family with Irish and German ancestry. An American actress, McCarthy started as a model. She came into the spotlight when she was a nude model for Playboy magazine. Jenny didn’t reveal anything about her experience on the online dating app, but in July 2013, she did reveal that she was dating Donnie Wahlberg and they were married in 2014.

5. Carrie Ann Inaba

Carrie Ann Inaba, who grew up in Hawaii is of Irish, Japanese and Chinese descent. Inaba who is a professional dancer and came into prominence when she became a judge on the reality show Dancing With the Stars. She has also made a cameo appearance in the television series Hannah Montana. In 2011, the dancer revealed that she had an eyesight defect that had rendered her legally blind and that she was using eyeglasses and contact lens as corrective measures.

Carrie is another celebrity who has ventured into the world of online dating. She disclosed in an interview that she once dated a man she met on the dating app, eHarmony. In the 2011 interview with Access Hollywood, the professional dancer said she was once engaged to a man she met online. According to Carrie, her profile on the app said she wanted someone who was sexy and loves cats and they matched him to her. Later, he proposed to her on television. He went down on one knee and asked Inaba to marry him. An emotional and joyous Inaba accepted his proposal and was getting set for her wedding. The relationship soon hit the rocks and she revealed that they broke off their engagement in 2012. In December 2016, she announced that she was engaged to actor Robb Derringer.

Hannibal Buress is a stand-up comedian and actor. Buress started his comedy career in 2009. His comedy topics include surreal humor, black comedy, and satire. Hannibal Buress also tried online dating with Tinder. The Broad City chatted with Cosmopolitan magazine and disclosed that he had registered on the online dating platform. Buress however, admitted that he had been cautious in his approach. Buress also noted that those who had gone on to check his profile or sought him out have found it difficult to separate him from his role as Lincoln in Broad City.

Andy Cohen is the first openly gay host of an American talk show. He hosted the Watch What Happens Live, which was one of the most popular late-night TV shows in the USA. Cohen, who has Jewish roots is also a renowned radio show host. The TV reality show host is also popular for his witty and bubbly nature. Cohen is also involved with the Real Housewives franchise as an executive producer and has also appeared in one of Lady Gaga’s video. He has made cameo appearances on several television series and sitcoms including the Netflix series, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. Andy Cohen is also a staunch supporter and advocate of LGBT rights.

Andy has also admitted that he is a Tinder fan. Cohen told People that he loves going on the online dating app to search for dates. He disclosed that he has no shame in the game. He said that he is totally open to finding love on the online app and that he finds it fun. Going by his utterances he will not stop going on Tinder to search for openly gay men who want to go on dates with him. Cohen even revealed that thousands of people had viewed his profile and had contacted him in a bid to be potential dates.

2. Adam Duritz

Adam Duritz is foremost a songwriter, musician and record producer. He was the lead vocalist and frontman of the 90s rock band known as Counting Crows. The band burst into the spotlight when it released the album August and Everything After, which went platinum. In 2008, Duritz revealed to Men’s Health that he had been diagnosed with Depersonalization Disorder, which makes the mind feel disengaged from the body and one’s immediate environment. Duritz was romantically involved in the past with the likes of Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, and Emmy Rossum. Lately, Duritz has also caught the Tinder bug. The musician recently joined the app and posted a screenshot of his profile on Twitter. Duritz expressed his surprise that almost everyone around him had delved into online dating so he had to follow the trend. Duritz also expressed mild surprise that people actually viewed his profile. The 50-year old musician noted jokingly that people his age are not on Tinder and don’t even know how to use a phone.

1. Ronda Rousey

Thirty-one-year old Ronda Rousey is a professional wrestler, actress and mixed martial artist. She is presently under contract with WWE and Raw Brand. She is also a professional judoka who has previously represented the USA at the 2004 and 2008 Olympic games in Athens and Beijing respectively. She won a bronze medal at the Beijing Olympic Games and won gold medal at the Judo World Championship in Birmingham. She retired from Judo at the age of 21 and crossed over to the world of mixed martial arts. Rousey has also appeared on the cover of ESPN: The Magazine in 2012. Rousey has also featured in some movies such as The Expendable 3, Fast and Furious 7 and The Entourage. She also made a cameo in season 2 of the Blindspot. She is an animal rights advocate and has raised money for the Black Jaguar White Tiger Foundation.

The female mixed martial artist has waded into the online dating field. Rouse said she opened her profile on Tinder by creating an alter ego known as Brynn Campbell in 2015. This however, was an unsuccessful adventure. In 2017, Rousey married fellow martial artist Travis Browne.
